Our Library is a very busy place!

General Mills Boxtops Contest

Our newest "Boxtops for Education" contest is now in progress. This time we are conducting a homeroom contest. The homeroom that collects the most Boxtops by January 30, 2009 wins a dress down day/pizza party! Please see the flyer that came home and Keep on Clipping those Boxtops!!!!

Preschool Storytime
Our storytime group is growing with each get -together. We now have 13 future SJS students in this year's storytime class. We learned about pirates this month. ARGH, AHOY MATIES We continue to meet on the first wednesday of the month. Our next storytime will be on January 7. Any child coming to Kindergarten next school year is invited to attend. Please call the school office to register.

Other News

Once a month, Eighth grade is playing Scrabble in library. After the new year, we will be holding a Scrabble tournament. In conjuction with Mis Grasser's social studies classes on the 50 states, Eighth grade is also watching the History channel's presentation on 'The States." We just finished up the Thirteen Original Colonies and now are beginning the western states.

* Fifth grade has justfinished reading "Punished" by David Lubar. They learned all about puns, oxymorons, anagrams, redundancies, and palindromes. We are now starting a murder- mystery called "The Dead Man in Indian Creek" by Mary Downing Hahn.

* Fourth grade has just finished reading "Being Teddy Roosevelt" by Claudia Mills. We are planning our own Biography Tea for this spring.

* Grades K-3 are happily enjoying Christmas stories as we speak!!!!!!!!!!!!



Our first Scholastic Book Fair of the school year was held November 7-11. This fall's theme was "Book Fair Safari". We are happy to report it was our best fair EVER! Our total sales were $6909.04, with a cash profit of $1920.21 and $490.00 worth of free books. All proceeds benefit our library. We also participated in the "One for Books" program. SJS collected enough to have 109 books donated to charity. Thank you for your support.
